It remains unclear whether the Pakistan Army was behind the half-page advertisement in a US newspaper last weekend to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks."Which country can do more for your peace? Since 2001, a nation of 180 million has been fighting for the future of the world's 7 billion," said an advertisement published in The Wall Street Journal. The ad cited a series of statistics, saying that almost 22,000 Pakistani civilians have died or been seriously injured in the fight against terrorism, the army has lost almost 3,000 soldiers, and over 3.5 million people have been displaced by the fighting, while the damage to the economy over the past decade is estimated at 68 billion dollars. The idea for the ad came from the Pakistan Army's public relations division, which has been keen to counter the US' contention that Pakistan continues to harbour Taliban militants, The Wall Street Journal quoted one Pakistani government official, as saying. The official said that the army pushed the idea through Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani's office,
kecove lacoste, which then passed it on to the Information Ministry. The official also revealed that a number of people in the Pakistan Government questioned the ad, saying that it was a waste of money and would make Pakistan look as if it was berating the US on Sept. 11, the paper said, pointing out that a half-page ad in the eastern edition of the WSJ, where Pakistan's ran, costs some 38,000 dollars.According to the government official, the ad was created by Midas Pakistan Pvt. Ltd, an ad agency that has worked with the military before. However, Brigadier Syed Azmat Ali, a spokesman for the army's public relations division, denied that the army was behind the idea,
Hogan Shoes, and said that it was the Information and Broadcasting Ministry who came up with it. The ad, if it indeed comes from the Pakistan army,
mulberry outlet, can be seen as part of this public battle which is often played out through the international media, the paper said.In that case, it could be the first time that Pakistan's powerful military has attempted to take its public and increasingly heated debate with America to the pages of a major US newspaper.
